How much does bathroom renovation cost in Geelong?
It depends on scope, not on a figure anyone can publish for you: keeping or changing the layout, the fixtures, what is behind the old linings, and whether the job needs a building permit. Consumer Affairs Victoria's advice is to price every fixture and fitting yourself and add 15 per cent for unplanned costs. Then get written quotes on the same scope so they can be compared. The costs page's Bathroom renovation costs and rules check lists the Victorian and City of Greater Geelong rules that apply at your job's value, each with its source.
Can I renovate a bathroom for $10,000?
Whether the work fits depends on scope. What changes at that figure is the paperwork: for work worth more than A$10,000, Victoria requires a builder registered with the Building and Plumbing Commission and a major domestic building contract, with a 5 clear business day cooling-off period. At A$10,000 or less those two lines do not apply, but the plumbing compliance certificate still does once the plumbing work is valued at A$750 or more.

Process
Who does the waterproofing in a Victorian bathroom?
It is building work, not plumbing. Victoria has a builder registration class limited to waterproofing, covering membranes in the interior, exterior, below-ground and remedial areas of a home.
Does the plumber have to give me a certificate?
Yes, for plumbing work valued at A$750 or more: the plumber must give you a compliance certificate, which certifies that the work complies with the law. For electrical work the certificate is a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
Timing
How quickly can someone get to me?
We cannot promise a time. It depends on the provider's bookings. Enquiries are passed to a local provider, who contacts you directly.
How much deposit can a builder ask for, and can I change my mind?
The deposit cannot be more than 10% of a contract price under A$20,000, or 5% of a contract price of A$20,000 or more; new Victorian contract laws take effect by 1 December 2026 and allow deposit limits to be set in regulations, so this may change. Under a major domestic building contract you can withdraw by signed written notice within 5 clear business days after you receive a copy of the signed contract; the builder may keep A$100 plus out-of-pocket expenses you approved, and the right does not apply where you had independent legal advice on the contract first.
Permits and approvals
Do I need a building permit to renovate a bathroom in Victoria?
It depends on what the work changes. Victoria exempts alterations only if, among other conditions, they do not affect structural soundness, change the floor area or height, or remove or alter an element that supports another. Moving a load-bearing wall or extending the room takes a job outside that. The City of Greater Geelong lists alterations among the work that can need a permit regardless of cost, so ask your building surveyor, or the council, before work starts. Inside the City a major renovation also needs an Asset Protection Permit (A$265.00, applied for at least three weeks ahead); it does not apply in Surf Coast Shire or the Borough of Queenscliffe.

Service area
Which suburbs do you cover?
Geelong. Four pages are written around a suburb's own census dwelling mix: Geelong, Geelong West, Newtown and Ocean Grove. The rest are covered on the same terms.
Do you do the work yourselves?
No. This site is run by a marketing company, which passes each enquiry to an independent licensed local provider. The provider inspects the room, quotes and does any work itself; we hold no registration and have no crews or plant.
